About the Design

The Fremont Rocket, a distinctive and iconic sculpture in Seattle, has a unique history dating back to 1994 when it was first installed in the Fremont neighborhood. The rocket was initially a Cold War-era relic from a missile silo and was repurposed as public art. Over the years, it has become a beloved symbol of Fremont's quirky and artistic character, standing at 53 feet tall and painted in vibrant colors. The rocket represents the neighborhood's commitment to embracing creativity and celebrating its eccentric identity, bearing the Fremont crest and motto, “De Libertas Quirkas”–which means “Freedom to be Peculiar.”
